Who We Are

Thank you for your interest in First United Methodist Church/The Place of New Castle. We welcome you as a guest and hope you will be inspired to return as a regular attendee or consider becoming a member.  It is our prayer than when you worship at First United Methodist Church/The Place, you will experience the presence of God through Jesus Christ.

We are a local congregation of The United Methodist Church, which has more than 11.4 million members worldwide.  Because of our worldwide connection, we are often one of the first to respond to disasters around the world. Since 1827, First Church has been doing the mission and ministry of the Church in New Castle, serving generations of individuals and families. As a church our mission is: changing lives, transforming community and renewing the church.   We believe lives are changed as people enter into a living relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  Our response to God’s unconditional love is to show God’s love to others through service and hospitality.  We desire for the church to continually be renewed so it will be always be a place that offers acceptance, hope and love to a hurting world.

  • We believe God loved us even before we knew God existed.

  • We believe in the triune God --- Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • We believe God is gracious and desires for all humanity to come into relationship with God.

  • We believe we have wounded ourselves and others and stand in need of being made new.

  • We believe being made new (redemption) comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • We believe our inner and outward lives can be made new by the grace of God.
